Check that the computer sees the upload cable
This applies to Windows.
- Open Device Manager. It is in the Control Panel, or type
devmgmt.mscin the Start menu. - Look for any device with a yellow triangle. That means a driver is missing. Reinstall the uploader drivers from the program's Help menu. If the missing driver belongs to your motherboard, ask your computer supplier for it.
- Open Ports and note what is listed.
- Unplug the uploader and plug it in again. A port should disappear and reappear.
What the result means:
- No port appears: check the cable first. It is a standard USB A to B cable, the kind used for printers.
- The port appears, but the program cannot find the uploader: the uploader may be faulty and need a service.
- A port is listed with nothing plugged in: another driver is interfering.
- The program is stuck on the wrong port: press Shift+3 in the program to choose the port, and select a higher number.
