Certifications

What our intrinsic safety and ingress protection ratings mean, the certificates behind them, and the documents a procurement department asks for.

Intrinsic safety, Zone 0

An intrinsically safe device cannot release enough electrical or heat energy to ignite an explosive atmosphere, even if it develops a fault. Zone 0 is the strictest classification: a place where an explosive gas mixture is present continuously or for long periods.

The Tagtough baton is certified for Zone 0, certificate MS-XPL/18.1262 X. It can be carried underground in a mine, in a fuel depot or in a chemical plant, including during an emergency.

The same certificate covers two models: the 190 mm Tagtough baton (model EX) and the 100 mm Mini Rock (model MR). For the Mini Rock, certification is available: ask for a certified unit when ordering.

Ingress protection

The IP code (IEC 60529) rates how well an enclosure keeps out dust and water. The first digit is dust, the second is water.

Rating Meaning Products
IP68 Dust tight, and protected against continuous immersion in water Suga Blu
IP69K Dust tight, and protected against close-range, high-pressure, high-temperature water jets Tagtough baton, Mini Rock

Our batons are also hermetically sealed: the electronics are closed off completely from the outside air.

The stainless steel batons, the Tagtough baton and the Mini Rock, were assessed to IP68 under SANS 60529 as part of their intrinsic safety certification. The rating is recorded in the assessment report.
