Remote Uploader: setup, lights, tunes and fault finding

Setting up

  1. Power it. Plug the unit in. The light runs through white, red, green, blue and white, and the unit plays a short start-up tune.
  2. Join its setup network. A unit that cannot join a Wi-Fi network it knows puts out its own. On a phone or laptop, open the Wi-Fi settings and join the network whose name starts with tagtough_ followed by the unit's own number. It asks for a setup password: get it from support if it was not supplied with the unit.
  3. Open the setup page. In a web browser go to 10.10.10.10.
  4. Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list of scanned networks, enter its password and save. The unit restarts and joins that network.

The unit uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and remembers up to ten networks, so it can be moved between sites without being set up again. Support can also add a network to a unit from Tagtough Online once it is connected.

Uploading a baton

  1. Place the baton on the uploader. The uploader gives a double beep and the light turns green: it has found the baton.
  2. The light turns yellow while the clockings are read, then dim green while they are saved.
  3. Leave the baton in place until you hear the result. The result tune repeats about every three seconds for as long as the baton stays on the unit.
Light Tune Meaning What to do
Green A short melody Everything was read and saved, and the baton has been cleared Remove the baton
Red A fast run of beeps The upload did not finish. Usually the baton was lifted too soon Put the baton back and leave it until the melody plays. Nothing is lost: the baton still holds its clockings
Red Three slow notes The baton had no clockings on it, or the uploader did not recognise it If the baton should have clockings, do the pre-repair check

The uploader saves the clockings in its own memory before it clears the baton, and then sends them to Tagtough Online. If the Wi-Fi is down, they wait in the uploader and are sent when the connection returns.

What the light means at other times

Light Meaning
White, red, green, blue, white in turn Starting up
Dim orange and purple, alternating Ready, waiting for a baton
Blue-violet, steady for a moment Sending to the server
Red, steady The last attempt to reach the server failed. The uploader tries again every two minutes
Purple, fading slowly in and out Connected to Wi-Fi but still reconnecting to the server for live alerts
White and red, flashing quickly Memory full. The uploader will not read another baton until it has sent what it holds
White, steady Receiving a software update, or restoring factory settings. Leave it powered
Any colour flashing, with a tune An alert sent from Tagtough Online, for example to start a patrol. The colour and tune are chosen there

The button

If it does not connect to the Wi-Fi

If the light stays red

The uploader is on the Wi-Fi but cannot reach the server. Check that the site's internet connection is working: Wi-Fi with no internet behind it will not carry the upload. Batons can still be read; their clockings are kept until the connection returns.
