Pre-repair check for a baton
1. Does it clock points?
Place the baton on a point. The light at the back should flash once. If it does not, either the point or the baton is faulty. Try another point, or another baton on the same point, to find out which.
2. Does it download on the PC?
Place the baton correctly on an upload station connected to your PC. If the software keeps showing "looking for baton", the fault could be the PC, the upload station or the baton. Try another baton to make sure.
3. Are the dates and times on your reports wrong?
Do a round with the baton yourself and check the report. If the computer's date or time is wrong, your reports will be wrong too.
4. Is the battery flat?
The usual sign is the light at the back flickering continuously. Batteries last 4 to 8 years depending on use. With a multimeter on the end of the baton:
| Reading | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Above 3 V | Battery is fine |
| 2.6 V to 3 V | Should be replaced, may work for a while |
| Below 2.6 V | Flat |
| 0 V | A wire has broken inside; probably not the battery |
If the baton fails any of these, see repairs and warranty.
