Magtouch Electronics baton
Legacy, still supported Made from 1994
Also known as: Magtouch Electronics baton, Magtouch Electronics stainless steel baton, T.H.E. Baton, Limited Edition Baton, Titanium Crystal baton
The original Magtouch Electronics patrol baton, the predecessor of the Tagtough baton. Read by an upload station connected to a PC.
Replaced by Tagtough baton.
History
Our first baton was built in 1994. It had a black anodised aluminium case with the logo engraved in it, knurling for grip, a flat front with a touch port, and a download port and keyring at the rear. In 1995 it gained an upload cable that connected it to a PC.
The stainless steel version followed, and is the direct ancestor of today's Tagtough baton. It was also made with a red grip.
How it works
The Magtouch Electronics baton records the date and time each time it is touched to an ID point, and is read out on an upload station. A correct clocking makes the light at the back flash once.
Battery check
A flat battery usually shows as the light at the back flickering continuously. Measured with a multimeter at the end of the baton:
| Reading | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Above 3 V | Battery is fine |
| 2.6 V to 3 V | Should be replaced, may work for a while |
| Below 2.6 V | Flat |
| 0 V | A wire has broken inside; probably not the battery |
Batteries last 4 to 8 years depending on use.
The smaller baton with German writing
Some smaller batons with a Magtouch Electronics logo and German writing are being resold in South Africa. We made that baton in 2010 for the German market and have never sold it locally. It is an old product and our support for it is limited.
If you bought one and it is not what you expected, contact us: we may be able to help you with a trade-in.
