Magcell
Legacy, still supported Made from 2005
Also known as: Magcell unit, Mag II, Telit, Q64, Raphael
The first cellular upload station: a baton is placed on it and its clockings are sent to the online server. Predecessor of the Mag Express.
Replaced by Mag Express.
Introduced in 2005, the Magcell was the first online guard monitoring unit in South Africa. It used the same baton as the desktop system, so an existing site could go online without replacing its batons.
The Magcell is a site unit with a cellular modem. A guard places the baton on it after a patrol; the unit reads the clockings and sends them to the online server. Some versions have a keypad for guards to sign on and off duty, a panic button underneath, and a tamper switch.
It should be left switched on at all times. Every 51 minutes it contacts the server, even when no baton has been read. This shows that the unit is still working, so a problem on site is noticed when the contact stops.
